Science, Culture, Chopsticks and Wine

From a Japanese folk dance (Mikagura Performance) to popular local events to major scientific conventions, we’ve got it all this October! The 14th Annual Chopsticks & Wine “Hocus Pocus Magic of the Vines” was recently held at our Ballrooms last October 8th. Chopsticks and Wine is an annual benefit for the Honolulu Japanese Chamber of Commerce.

Next up was a joint meeting for the 68th Annual Gaseous Electronics Conference/9th International Conference on Reactive Plasmas/33rd Symposium on Plasma Processing from October 12-16, 2015. They are followed quickly by the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG)’s 2015 Annual Scientific Meeting from October 16 – 21, 2015.

We also had the NACAC – 2015 Fall National College Fair. This year year, over 5,000 parents and students attended seeking information about colleges, universities and other postsecondary institutions. The fairs allow the institutions to meet and discuss all aspects of their curriculum: admission procedures, financial aid opportunities and more!

We will wrap up October with the 2015 62nd American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM) Annual Meeting which is the premier educational event for those involved in neuromuscular (NM) and  electrodiagnostic (EDX) medicine.

Last but not the least; HCC celebrates Halloween with our monthly Sunset Mele on the Rooftop on Saturday, October 31st. It will be a safe, fun and free evening for the entire family with Trick or Treating, Costume Contests, a Haunted House and our featured movie, “Maleficent”.

From cosplay (costume in play), music, fashion, anime, art, or collectibles; you name it, they’ve got it! Through cultural panels, exhibits, workshops and other fun events, Anime Matsuri Hawai‘i envisions this convention to serve as a bridge from the East and West and from Houston to Hawaii. They not only bring the excitement of Japan, but also try to educate the community on cultural diversity.

Hawai‘i’s inaugural Anime Matsuri will be held at the Hawaii Convention Center from November 27 – 29, 2015.
