The 2014 American Counseling Association (ACA) Conference & Expo will bring together approximately 2,600 counselors and students at the Hawai`i Convention Center from March 27 to 30.  The conference, which was last held in Hawai`i in 2008, will empower professionals with the skills they need to meet the public’s shifting counseling needs.

The conference will include the opening keynote on March 28 by Morgan Spurlock, Academy Award-nominated director of the documentary “Super Size Me” and host and producer of CNN’s original series, “Inside Man.”  Spurlock will speak about social issues and trends in the United States as it relates to the counseling profession.  On March 29, world-renowned innovator and teacher of family therapy Cloe Madanes will deliver her keynote address at the convention center.

First Hawaiian International Auto Show This Weekend

The annual First Hawaiian International Auto Show begins this Friday, March 14, and runs through Sunday, March 16 at the Hawai`i Convention Center.

Showcasing new and yet-to-be-seen vehicles, the show features cars for everyone including exotics, car clubs, and cars from the popular CBS television show “Hawaii Five-O.”

The Honolulu Festival Begins Today

Hawai`i’s annual cultural extravaganza, The Honolulu Festival, begins today!  This much anticipated event brings people together from around the Pacific Rim – Japan, Australia, Tahiti, Philippines, Taiwan, Korea, and Hawai`i.  A mix of educational programs, dance performances, musical acts, art demonstrations, food and fun activities for all ages attracts thousands of locals and visitors each year.

These family-friendly activities take place at the Hawai`i Convention Center and many other location in Honolulu, with the grand finale Honolulu Festival Parade down Kalakaua Avenue at 4:00pm and Fireworks Show at 8:30pm on Sunday, March 9.

The MCI International Sales Partners, representing Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, Europe, Oceania, and Latin America, are all in Honolulu this week for the Hawai`i Tourism Authority’s Spring Marketing Update, happening at the Hawai`i Convention Center.

The Hawai`i Convention Center welcomed them on March 3rd with a tour and information about the facility, followed by a reception in the Charlot Courtyard.

The Center’s team is excited to work alongside the International Sales Partners to bring more meetings and events to Hawai`i.

The 2014 Ocean Sciences Meeting will bring together 5,000 attendees for scientific exchange of marine science disciplines.

The 2014 Ocean Sciences Meeting, the largest international assembly of ocean scientists, engineers, students, policy makers, and key stakeholders, will bring together more than 5,000 attendees at the Hawai`i Convention Center this week to address important marine science issues.  This is the third time the Ocean Sciences Meeting is taking place in Hawai`i, with the last symposium held in 2006.

Hawai`i Welcomes the IUCN Delegation

Hawai`i welcomes representatives from the International Union for Conservation of Nature with a reception at the Hawai`i Convention Center.

Hawai`i welcomes representatives from the International Union for Conservation of Nature with a reception at the Hawai`i Convention Center.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) is the world’s oldest and largest global environmental and conservation organization, with representation from more than 160 countries.  A four-person delegation from IUCN is in Hawai`i this week, as the Aloha State bids host to the IUCN World Conservation Congress in 2016.  Held every four years, this meeting aims to improve how we manage our natural environment for human, social, and economic development.  As many as 8,000 delegates attend this meeting, representing leaders from government, the public sector, non-governmental organizations, business, UN agencies, and social organizations.

The site visit to Hawai`i begins on Hawai`i Island, with a tour of Volcanoes National Park.  From there they come to Oahu to visit Waikiki hotel properties as well as the Hawai`i Convention Center, where there is a welcome reception later that evening.  From there they are off to Kaua`i for more meetings and site inspections.

Sweet Adelines International’s Convention & Competition Begins Today

More than 5,000 a cappella vocalists from around the world have convened at the Hawai`i Convention Center for the 67th annual Sweet Adelines International Convention & Competition.  Members are women who are committed to advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony.

Tuesday, Nov. 5:  Small and mid-size choruses will compete in the Harmony Classic Contest beginning at 6:00pm.

Wednesday, Nov. 6:  Quartet competition opens at 10:00am.

Thursday, Nov. 7:  Chorus semifinal competition opens at 10:45am.

Friday, Nov. 8:  The top 10 quartets from Wednesday return for the finals, beginning at noon.

Saturday, Nov. 9:  The top 10 choruses from Thursday return for the finals, beginning at noon.

Enjoy Family-Friendly Concerts Featuring the World’s Best Female Barbershop Singers

2013 International Champion Chorus, North Metro, will hand over the title to the 2014 champion during the Honolulu convention.

Sweet Adelines International is an organization of women singers committed to advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony through education and performance.  More than 5,000 a cappella vocalists will be in Honolulu Nov. 5-9 to sing for you at the Hawai`i Convention Center!

Neyla Pekarek, cellist/vocalist for the Grammy-nominated band The Lumineers, started out in a winning Sweet Adelines International quartet!  Vogue quartet was the 2010 Rising Star International Champion.  See their winning performance and come to the LIVE performances to see the next big stars!

Ms. Pekarek will be in attendance the entire week doing public performances with top quartets, visiting a Honolulu high school, meeting and greeting, and participating as a celebrity judge.
