Educators Convene in Hawai`i to Launch First AVID Summer Institute of the Season

avid14AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), a global nonprofit organization dedicated to closing the achievement gap by preparing all students for college and other postsecondary opportunities, kicks off its Summer Institute program at the Hawai`i Convention Center, June 4-6.

Nearly 1,400 educators are in Honolulu to learn the latest in AVID curriculum and teaching techniques, acquire new skills, and share best practices.

Through this year’s summer institute, AVID will train approximately 27,000 educators from across the country in strategies to improve student engagement, increase graduation rates, and close achievement gaps in underserved student populations. The program also includes teacher and student speakers sharing inspirational stories about how AVID impacted their academic and personal lives.
