Hawai`i welcomes representatives from the International Union for Conservation of Nature with a reception at the Hawai`i Convention Center.
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) is the world’s oldest and largest global environmental and conservation organization, with representation from more than 160 countries. A four-person delegation from IUCN is in Hawai`i this week, as the Aloha State bids host to the IUCN World Conservation Congress in 2016. Held every four years, this meeting aims to improve how we manage our natural environment for human, social, and economic development. As many as 8,000 delegates attend this meeting, representing leaders from government, the public sector, non-governmental organizations, business, UN agencies, and social organizations.
The site visit to Hawai`i begins on Hawai`i Island, with a tour of Volcanoes National Park. From there they come to Oahu to visit Waikiki hotel properties as well as the Hawai`i Convention Center, where there is a welcome reception later that evening. From there they are off to Kaua`i for more meetings and site inspections.
